Success Coaching at Piaggio completed
The month of June 2023 saw the culmination of a unique 9-month initiative with Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd called “Success Coaching”
The middle to senior management layer is crucial for most organizations. This is the layer that requires a blend of technical, managerial and leadership skills. They have multiple stakeholders, and are expected sometimes to play leadership roles in cross functional teams. With teams becoming diverse and roles becoming global, the skills that worked for them till now, may need to be honed further for new scenarios. The success coaching initiative was designed around getting 7 members from this crucial layer ready for their next role. Each had their own pace. Each had their own way of owning the development areas. Each had their own ways of communicating. Some interesting dilemmas we conversed through:
- I don’t think the plant head will talk to me every day. I have no problems to discuss with him.
- In my new role, I have no reporting team, how can I practise team management?
- I have so much experience, with different managers, but this manage hardly talks to me.
- I want to inspire my team so that they take up more tasks
- My senior left and it is an ever changing team, how do I take charge?
- My whole team is fresh. My daily meeting consists of instructions and no time for taking views.
- I am a great trainer and auditor. How do I gain knowledge from experts? Why would they share?
The CHRO Pooja Bansal, had aptly envisioned this to be a long term process, and the way she got the involvement of function heads and managers in the process, shows the belief that she has generated over her long stint at PVPL.
